Visa requirements — check yours first.
Not every country requires a visa to work in Germany. The requirements depend entirely on your nationality. Before you apply, find out which rules apply to you.
📋 ZAV Work Permit — required for everyone
Every participant — regardless of nationality — needs an official work permit from the German Federal Employment Agency (ZAV). This is not optional. SHB applies for this permit on your behalf after you submit your documents.
🛂 Visa — depends on your country
Whether you need a visa to enter Germany depends entirely on your nationality. EU/EEA citizens do not need one. Most non-EU participants — for example from Indonesia, India, or Thailand — will need a visa in addition to the work permit.
ZAV Work Permit (everyone) — SHB applies for your Arbeitserlaubnis from the ZAV once your profile and documents are complete. This is the first and mandatory step for all participants, regardless of nationality.
Visa (if required for your country) — once the ZAV approval is confirmed, you check whether your nationality requires a visa. SHB will inform you and provide the employer documents needed for your visa application.
Book your visa appointment — at the German embassy or consulate in your home country. Bring all required documents including your work permit confirmation. Processing times vary — apply as early as possible.
Only then book your flights — never book travel before your ZAV approval is confirmed and your visa (if required) is granted. Your coordinator will tell you when you are cleared to travel.

Your first steps on ferienjobgermany.de
Follow these steps on our platform to complete your application. Each step unlocks the next — it only takes a few minutes.
Create your free account
Click "Apply Now" and fill in your name, email, country of origin, WhatsApp number, and university. Confirm your email address to activate your account — it only takes a few minutes.
Complete your data & upload your documents
Go to "My Profile" and fill in all personal details — passport info, university, language skills, and clothing sizes. Then go to "My Documents" and upload your passport, photo, and enrolment certificate. The more complete, the faster we can move forward.
Work permit is applied for — please wait
Once your profile and documents are complete, SHB applies for your official ZAV work permit on your behalf. This step takes time — please be patient and do not book any flights yet. You will be notified as soon as approval is granted.
Clarify visa & book your embassy appointment
Once your ZAV work permit is approved, check whether your country of origin requires a German visa. If yes — contact your local German embassy and book an appointment. SHB will provide all employer documents you need for the application.
Complete the FerienjobGermany Academy
Access the Academy from your dashboard and work through all 8 chapters at your own pace. You will learn everything about your employment contract, salary, safety, accommodation, and daily life in Germany — before you even arrive.
Book your flights & travel to Germany
Once your work permit is confirmed, your visa (if required) is granted, and the Academy is complete — you are cleared to book your flights. Your coordinator will confirm your start date and accommodation details. Your adventure begins!
